"Sir Carol Reed's Oliver! is a treasure of a movie. It is very nearly universal entertainment, one of those rare films like The Wizard of Oz that appeals in many ways to all sorts of people. And as a work of popular art, it will stand the test of time ... It is as well-made as a film can be." —Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
Young orphan Oliver Twist (Mark Lester) escapes the grueling workhouse he calls home and takes to the streets of 19th-century London. There he befriends the local street urchins led by the elderly criminal Fagin (Ron Moody) and his apprentice, the Artful Dodger (Jack Wild). With his band of merry misfits, Oliver becomes a slick finger-smith able to con just about anyone — until his latest mark, Mr. Brownlow (Joseph O'Conor), takes a liking to the boy offers him the greatest treasure of all: a home and a family of his own. Based on the 1960 stage musical of the same name, Oliver! is a high-spirited adventure that won a whopping six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and features rousing musical numbers such as "Food, Glorious Food"; "Consider Yourself"; "As Long as He Needs Me"; "You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two"; and "Where Is Love?"
